Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812
Broadway
October 23, 2016
Denée Benton (Natasha), Josh Groban (Pierre), Brittain Ashford (Sonya), Grace McLean (Marya D.), Lucas Steele (Anatole), Amber Gray (Hélène), Manik Choksi (Dolokhov), Nicholas Belton (Bolkonsky / Andrey), Gelsey Bell (Mary / Opera Singer / Maidservant), Paul Pinto (Balaga / Opera Singer / Servant)
Trading notes: Multi-camera archival pro-shot of the original Broadway cast filmed during previews.
Currently circulating version was uploaded to Vimeo in August 2026 by the production's casting director, and has hardcoded English subtitles and an improper framerate (so the source is presumably a screen recording).

Trading notes: Nice HD capture of this immersive production that takes place all over the theater. Everything is captured as well as can be done in this setting. A beautiful production with so many layers and phenomenal performances. A-

Denée Benton (Natasha), Josh Groban (Pierre), Brittain Ashford (Sonya), Grace McLean (Marya D.), Lucas Steele (Anatole), Amber Gray (Hélène), Manik Choksi (Dolokhov), Nicholas Belton (Bolkonsky / Andrey), Gelsey Bell (Mary / Opera Singer / Maidservant), Paul Pinto (Balaga)
Trading notes: Fantastic and powerful performances from the whole cast. This is as nicely captured as can be expected from this show. There are several set pieces that obstruct the view of the action in certain places. There are about fourteen minutes of blackouts: most of the first seven minutes of Act One, one and a half minutes of The Private and Intimate Life of the House, one minute of The Ball, three minutes of Balaga, one minute of The Abduction, and a couple other quick dropouts. It's filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. Released as both a DVD and a Blu-Ray.
June 27, 2017 (Evening)
Shoba Narayan (u/s Natasha), Dave Malloy (t/r Pierre), Brittain Ashford (Sonya), Grace McLean (Marya D.), Lucas Steele (Anatole), Amber Gray (Hélène), Manik Choksi (Dolokhov), Ken Wulf Clark (u/s Bolkonsky / u/s Andrey), Courtney Bassett (u/s Mary / u/s Opera Singer / u/s Maidservant), Paul Pinto (Balaga)
Trading notes: A great HD capture of creator Dave Malloy stepping in for a limited run of shows. Beautiful performance from South Asian actress Shoba as Natasha. A few heads shot around in a couple of scenes downstage, but usually worked around when present. A-

Trading notes: Beautiful HD capture from the orchestra of Oak and Ingrid's final performances. Hands down the best capture of this show and from the perfect angle. All drama aside, Oak gave a rousing performance. A

Master's notes: Excellent stageshot of this spectacular regional non-replica show in previews (also master's best capture of the show). Shot from front row center stage. Actors occasionally stood in aisles and that is missed - action on stage captured very well, though. Frequent readjustment and underexposure, especially in Act 1. Also this was my first time seeing Great Comet live, and I am the loudest clapper.

Master's notes: An excellent capture. Some focus issues but nothing major. For about 7 minutes in Act Two there is a tech issue with an AC-like sound from a machine. I’ve done my best to minimise the sound as much as I can but it can still be heard. Recording includes the curtain call and a shot of the outside of the theatre. Filmed in 4K. External audio used.

Master's notes: Excellent 4K capture of my favorite musical!! Shot over heads, but only obstructs action when people sit on the floor (which only happens a couple times). No footage missed at the start of either act. This is some of my best work, I was having so much fun. Shot in a beautiful mix of wides, mediums, and closeups. Occasional moments of readjustment and shakiness throughout, along with some minor mic issues. Audio fed from external source.

Master's notes: Decent capture of a student cast full of future stars. Complete and unobstructed with a nice mix of wides and zooms, though emphasis is on wideshots to capture all the amazing choreography work. Some shaking, wandering, and focus issues throughout, with heavier amounts of overexposure than I would have hoped for. Includes bows.
